Extended description:
Gregorian chant has always been synonymous with spirituality and deeply emotions. Especially when it is sung by the monks themselves, sung as a prayer. This CD wishes to evoke those two feelings. From the outset, in order to record the voices, it was necessary to find two place, two points of reference, in order to establish the most consonant. The first was at the foot of the altar, under the dome, in a place of great space where the voice rises and reverberates, producing an image which is both spacious and solemn. In the second, the singers are to be found in the middle of the great choir, with its beautiful wood inlay, allowing the listeners to be near the monks and to experience the warmth and uniqueness of the human voice. Having achieved excellent results it was decided to record half of the pieces, those which are indicated by an asterisk, in the first position, and the other half in the second position, in order to have a complete auditory panorama in this magnificent church. The organ, skilfully tuned, has proved itself to hold a truly emotive sound, precise and rich, in a thousand ways. In the actual recording four microphones were used: two placed near the singer and the organ and two placed further afield. This was to recreate the sound stage and thus provide the authentic background and feel of this monastic church.
