A tribute to “GAE” TORTORZIO, a great friend and musician.
In this cd he gave us an intense interpertation of BLACK QUEEN-Stephen Stills (trk.15). I think it’s worth possessing this cd even just for this track.
CD dedicated to folk jazz. The original formation (acustic guitar, winds, acustic base) excecuted pieces which have now become standard (Yesterday, From the Beginning, Tequila, ecc.) interpreting them with jazz atmosphere and creating emotions and pathos. The quality of recording is the usual original master, where the objectives of reproduction of the sound event with width and timber of the place of recording. In the cd by the way there are 5 tracks called “improvisation from empty room” where the musicians measure themselves in solo parts starting from the known theme to develop personal harmony, from improvisation.
The microphone placement was chosen to recover the width of the room which has had a big part in the final result of the sound obtained. With particular attention to the research of balace between the instruments to have a mixture which was present during the excecution. The eventual small differences in the acustic or timber of the various pieces are due to the different enviromental conditions found during the recordings. These differences demonstrate that , if it had been needed, the objective was that of producing an acustic photograph of the event without particular manipulation in post production. The final result was that of having instruments with a lot of space around the concert room.

Il Cassero è la fortezza (sec.XIV) dell'antica cittadella del paese, robusta fabbrica a tre piani, con quattro torrette e un mastio, già circondata da fossato, oggi inglobata fra edifici di più recente costruzione. Sulla facciata, sopra il portale d'accesso, è il giglio fiorentino (1384).
Nel corso dei secoli fu sede del Monte Pio e quindi ricovero di mendicità. All'interno, perfettamente conservato e rivalorizzato grazie ai restauri degli anni '70, si trovano varie opere d'arte plastica, un Museo della ceramica popolare, spazi espositivi per mostre e una sala conferenze.
The Cassero owes its present look (Sienese depressed arches and scarp walls) to the reconstruction carried out by the Sienese when they became lords of Monte San Savino in 1383.
Monte San Savino having fallen under the control of Florence in 1384, the lily of Florence was placed on the front of the fortress where it can still be seen.
As time went by, the fortress lost its purpose and housed a pawnbroker (end of sixteenth century) then a poor people’s home up to 1960. Entirely renovated in the seventies, the Cassero is now the City Museum, displaying ceramic vessels and various works of art, among which is a carved and painted Sienese wooden crucifix dating back to the fourteenth century. The premises are also used for temporary exhibitions and for public lectures.
